Jon Crane Prints T-Z
Taking Flight ~ 21 x 10Limited Ed: $250 Artist Proof: $300 While taking a back road that may have been the old highway, Jon ran across an old farm west of Reliance, South Dakota. To him, it looked like good pheasant habitat, so he used a stuffed bird that lives in his studio to add that point of interest to “Taking Flight.” | Test of Time ~ 20 x 12Limited Ed: $250 Artist Proof: Sold Out In the early 1980s Jon took a trip to Montana is search of subjects to paint. While near Pony, Montana the area was hit by an early September snowstorm. “Test of Time” was a result of that visit, although it was painted from photographs many years later. | Time Waits for No One ~ 17 x 10Limited Ed: $125 Artist Proof: Sold Out The sides of the barns at the Bulldog Ranch, north of Rochford, makes a very interesting study of textures in “Time Waits for No One.” |

A Timeless Tradition ~ 51.75 x 17Limited Ed: $350 Artist Proof: Sold Out “A Timeless Tradition” was painted from the Schmitz place located on Nemo Road between Nemo and Rapid City, SD. It is a beautiful old ranch that is now being restored by the new owners. Hopefully, with loving care, it will be around for a long time. | Touching Heaven ~ 13.5 x 20Limited Ed: $250 Artist Proof: $300 Very often Jon will be off searching the countryside before the sun is up, looking for his next painting. On this particular morning in eastern South Dakota, he was on the search before either the sun or Gail had made it up. “Touching Heaven” was inspired by Zion Lutheran Church near Wakonda, which is the same church he featured in “Prairie Prelude". | Turning Point ~ 18 X 12Limited Ed: $150 Artist Proof: $200 Rural farm scenes have a special glow just before sunrise ~ the turning point. |
Unto the Hills ~ 30 x 13Limited Ed: $300 Artist Proof: Sold Out Jon had spent the day fly fishing with his brother-in-law, John, near Black Fox, west of Rochford. Late in the afternoon a thunderstorm came through, bringing the fishing to an end. On the way home, the rain stopped and clouds began to rise up in the valley, as they often do in the Hills. That was the inspiration for “Unto the Hills.” | VIP Ranch ~ 20 x 19Limited Ed: Sold Out Artist Proof: Sold Out The original of the “VIP Ranch” was painted at a gallery demonstration to raise money for the “Art in the Schools” program of the Hill City Arts Council. The ranch is located between Custer and Hermosa. | Warmth Within ~ 19 x 13Limited Ed: $150 Artist Proof: $200 Rochford is a very small town located near Mystic, where Jon and Gail live. The Irish Gulch was once a dance hall, and is now a seasonal getaway. The Moonshine Gulch Saloon is a great little bar where you can get the best greasy burgers in the Hills and wash them down with a cold beer or two. During the winter there is always a warm fire going, but the real “Warmth Within” comes from Betsy who owns the place. Tell her that Jon sent you. |
Washday ~ 12 x 9Limited Ed: $125 Artist Proof: $175 “Wash Day” came from a trip Jon and Gail took to Holmes County, Ohio. This county has the largest population of Amish in the US and the Cranes have been back several times. Large families mean piles of laundry, and all of it is hung on clotheslines. Gail liked this original so well that she snatched it up and wouldn’t let Jon sell it. | Watchful Moment ~ 13 x 15Limited Ed: Sold Out Artist Proof: $200 A rooster pheasant spends a “Watchful Moment” in front of a magnificent oak tree. | Wide Open Spaces ~ 20 x 14Limited Ed: $250 Artist Proof: $300 Jon discovered Pawnee Buttes in the Pawnee National Grassland of northeastern Colorado while attending college in Greeley, and made many trips there. This is now one of the Cranes’ favorite places to camp. Springtime is the most spectacular time to be there with the new greenery and abundant bird life. If you like wide open spaces, this place is for you. |
Wild Mystic Rose ~ 13 x 7.75Limited Ed: $100 Artist Proof: $150 A bouquet of wild roses discovered on one of Jon's many walks. | Winter Haven ~ 14.5 x 10.5Limited Ed: $150 Artist Proof: Sold Out A cozy log house at Castleton in the heart of the Black Hills, about 4 miles from the Cranes. “ Winter Haven” was painted from a photo Jon took on his way into the gallery in Hill City. It was done as a demonstration piece and auctioned for charity. | Winter Sage ~ 13 x 9Limited Ed: $125 Artist Proof: $175 “Winter Sage” was inspired by the same location south of Custer that Jon featured in “Sage.” |
Winter's Abundance ~ 20.5 x 14Limited Ed: $250 Artist Proof: $300 The Kishacoquillas Valley in central Pennsylvania was settled by Amish and Mennonite families many generations ago. Jon believes the farms here look like farms really should. They still raise everything they eat, and winter is the time they live off of the abundance they have accumulated through the year. | Yesterday's Workhorse ~ 15.5 x 11Limited Ed: Sold Out Artist Proof: Sold Out Jon has always had a soft spot for old Ford Trucks. The first piece he had printed in 1979 was “Memories” (a 1928 Ford AA truck). The truck he painted in “Yesterday’s Workhorse” is the same one used to paint “Peaceful Winter’s Day” many years ago. It seems he has come full circle. |
